As a makeup artist when applying makeup I’m a huge believer in the saying “less is more”. This is especially the case the older we get. So many of my clients have expressed to me that when they wear makeup it makes them feel older. That is not the goal, EVER. My goal of makeup application is to brighten and soften features and to help my clients feel fresh and pretty.
One of my favorite products that helps brighten the complexion without accentuating any unwanted attention to texture is cream blush. It looks great on everyone (even oily and young skin), blends easily, doesn’t accentuate texture, and you can be super heavy-handed and not look like a clown (for us heavy-handed gals). The other thing I love from a sustainability perspective is that most of these products you can use on cheeks, lips, and even your eyes. That’s one product in your makeup bag versus three.
The other beauty of using a cream is that most of these products are formulated with skin-loving ingredients, improving the quality of your skin and letting it breathe while wearing it.
Makeup artist tips:
- You can apply with your fingers or a brush. (Always use a synthetic bristle brush).
- Apply before you apply powder products.
- You can layer another blush on top for a more dramatic or long wear effect.
- To set the blush, you can dust a translucent powder over. Or just leave it dewy and fresh looking for a more glowing look. It’s also super easy to touch up or add more at the end of the day.

Above and Beyond – A “poppy” very pigmented coral red, that exudes a radiant warm glow to cheeks. Works beautifully on medium to dark skin tones, especially on Hispanic and dark skin tones. Can work double-duty as a lip color to give you the perfect bright coral lip.
